Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon jeep day tour is obviously a long day tour, which offers a magnificent and diverse experience of Icelandic nature. The black sand beaches in addition to the ocean and the coastline, balanced against the glaciers are just examples of what you will experience during this tour.
Firstly we begin the day by driving towards east and throughout the historical area Rangarvallasysla, the setting of the medieval saga Njalssaga.
Secondly we will visit Seljalandsfoss, a beautiful, high waterfall we surprisingly can walk behind and into a small cave. The waterfall drops 60 m (197 ft) and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull.
Eyjafjallajokull volcano view:
Thirdly we will stop at good viewpoint towards our famous volcano Eyjafjallajokull, that indeed made the air traffic problems the year 2010.
Fourthly we continue the trip to Skogar, where there is another big waterfall, Skogafoss. Skogafoss waterfall is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country with a width of 15 metres (49 feet) and a drop of 60 m (200 ft). Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces in addition a single or double rainbow which is normally visible on sunny days.
Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon:
Furthermore we drive to the glacier lagoon Jokulsarlon. Jokulsarlon (literally “glacial river lagoon”) is a large glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland, on the borders of Vatnajokull National Park. Situated at the head of Breidamerkurjokull, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the Icelandic glaciers. Size of the lagoon has increased fourfold since the 1970s. It is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland. Jokulsarlon has been a setting for four Hollywood movies — A View to a Kill, Die Another Day, Tomb Raider and Batman Begins — in addition to the reality-TV series Amazing Race. After ca. one hour stop we return to via the same route. During summer we can arrange boat tour on the lagoon that takes 1 – 2 hours.
The Dimond beach:
Thereafter we have the Diamond beach. The ice from the glacier lagoon gets collected on the beach. The beach itself is black sand and the different shapes of ice makes it certainly look like diamonds.
At last we will be heading back home to your hotel.
